This course will help you develop a deeper understanding of coach-athlete relationships by exploring how they are shaped by different coaching environments and your own coaching beliefs and values. Through reflection on your coaching purpose, philosophy, and current relationships with athletes, you will be encouraged to identify the characteristics of high-quality coach-athlete relationships and consider how these can positively influence both athlete experiences and your ongoing development as a coach.
Throughout the course you will:
- Reflect on your own views around what coaching is.
- Consider the context within which the coach-athlete relationship unfolds (e.g., Club, School, University, Talent Pathway, Performance Centre).
- Reflect on your own purpose and philosophy that underpins the “why” (purpose) for coaching within these contexts.
- Reflect on your own relationships with your athletes in the team or squad and describe their quality.
- Consider what a good quality coach-athlete relationship looks like.
