Rescue Emergency Care First Aid

 

The outdoor first aid course is designed to introduce a systematic way of first aid for managing casualties. Topic learning and practical intermixed with scenarios of real situations.

 

Course Overview

The course includes:

• The fundamental workings of the body, in particular the heart, lungs and airway

• Assessing a casualty

• Introduces a system to cope with all incidents as safely as possible

• Deciding how to deal with an accident or incident

• Awareness of delayed medical help and adverse environmental conditions

• C.P.R.

• Use of AED

 

Programme

Day 1

Emergency: vital signs • emergency action • airway • unconscious • choking • bleeding • breathing and circulation • CPR • AED (automated external defibrillator) practical training

Day 2

Environment: heat stress • cold stress • hot injuries • cold injuries

Illness: chest pain • stroke • asthma • epilepsy • diabetes

Injury: head • spine • chest • abdomen • pelvis • bones • soft tissue • eye

Rescue: transportation • communication

 

To accommodate the RYA syllabus our Outdoor course will include understanding the differential for drowning, immersion and seasickness.

 

What you will Learn

The REC system is very “hands on” and many of the topics covered are practiced outdoors. You will cover all the areas of the syllabus and get plenty of opportunity to give and receive feedback and ask questions.

By the end of the course, you should feel comfortable in your ability to approach a First Aid situation with minimal stress and fuss.

The course is assessed on an ongoing basis with a short multiple-choice paper and is valid for 3 years.

 

Is this course for me?

No previous experience is required for this course. The 16-hour (2 days) REC course is recognised by most all the National Governing Bodies including CANI, MTUKI, RYA and many others.

 

What Equipment do I need to bring?

• Bring any of your own personal outdoor clothing and kit such as:

• Waterproof Jacket and trousers*

• Boots* or walking shoes

• Warm layers

• Fleece Jacket

• Hat & Gloves

• Head torch*

• Flask & water bottle

• 40L rucksack & liner*

• First Aid kit

• Notebook and pencil

• Items marked * can be borrowed from TNOC stores

 

What does the cost include?

This course is fully catered, and the course fee includes 1 night accommodation, breakfast, lunch and dinner. The course fee also includes all in-course transport and all specific technical equipment.
