Introduction to Co-ordination and Control for Coaches

Co-ordination and control are fundamental to the development of movement and sporting performance. This course introduces coaches to the key concepts of co-ordination and control, exploring how athletes acquire and refine movement skills. Through practical examples, learners will examine the factors that influence co-ordination and control and consider how these can be applied to create more effective coaching sessions.

By the end of the course, learners will be able to:

  • Define co-ordination and control and explain their importance in sport.
  • Identify the factors that influence co-ordination and control during skill development.
  • Recognise how elements such as timing, rhythm, speed and accuracy affect movement performance.
  • Apply an understanding of co-ordination and control to support athlete learning and development in coaching practice.
