Introduction to LGBTIQ+ Inclusion in Sport

Sport should be a welcoming and inclusive space for everyone. Designed for players, coaches, officials, volunteers, club committees, parents and guardians, this course provides an introduction to LGBTIQ+ inclusion in sport. Learners will develop their understanding of LGBTIQ+ identities, explore the barriers faced by LGBTIQ+ people in sport, and identify practical ways to create more inclusive and supportive sporting environments.

 By the end of the course, learners will be able to:

  • Identify different LGBTIQ+ identities and understand relevant terminology.
  • Explain how homophobia can operate in sport and the impact it can have on individuals and communities.
  • Recognise the barriers that LGBTIQ+ people may experience in sport and physical activity.
  • Understand the role of allyship in promoting inclusion and belonging.
  • Identify practical actions to help create a more welcoming and inclusive sporting environment.
